Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life
From the song by by Bruce Reitherman and Phil Harris
Unlike Biology or Chemistry, Physics is a relatively simple subject! As one graduates with an undergraduate degree in Physics, it is sufficient to know four subjects very well. They are 1. Classical Mechanics, 2. Quantum Mechanics, 3. Electromagnetism and 4. Statistical Mechanics. A course in Mathematical Methods in Physics would help one go through the course material. A student who wishes to do experimental Physics will need a whole lot more than this! I feel that it is a lot harder to be an experimentalist — you need to a good technician in addition to being a scientist.
In this page, I will share material that will be of interest to students who wish to pursue Physics in graduate school leading up to a doctoral degree. The material will be mostly at the level of a first-year of the two-year M.Sc. programme in the Indian system. If you are undergraduate student, do not despair if you do not know everything that is discussed in these courses. At that age, I didn't know all this but got this level in later in graduate school. It is never too late.
